Universal Health Services (UHS) has opened Three Trails Behavioral Hospital, a 120 bed facility in Independence, Missouri, designed to provide inpatient and outpatient behavioral health care for children, teens, and adults. The $60 million investment marks a significant expansion in the region’s mental health infrastructure, with the new hospital adding 200 full time jobs to the local economy.
The facility was officially launched to address growing demand for specialized behavioral health services, particularly in Western Missouri. Coleby Wright, CEO of Three Trails Behavioral Hospital, emphasized the importance of expanding capacity, stating, ‘Expanding behavioral healthcare capacity is essential to building healthier communities.’ The hospital’s design prioritizes accessibility, offering a range of services, including inpatient and outpatient care, close to home, ensuring patients receive treatment without long distance travel barriers.
UHS’s expansion comes alongside a strategic shift toward outpatient care. Earlier this year, the company acquired virtual behavioral health provider Talkspace for $835 million, signaling a broader effort to enhance outpatient service delivery. This acquisition complements the new facility, reinforcing UHS’s commitment to meeting diverse patient needs across the behavioral health spectrum.
