Boulder Care, a telehealth provider focused on substance use disorder treatment, has secured $1.8 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The grant, awarded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), will support efforts to expand access to addiction treatment for patients in underserved or hard to reach settings. This includes rural communities, correctional facilities, and other environments where traditional in person care may be limited or unavailable.
Substance use disorders remain a critical public health challenge, with nearly 49 million Americans affected in 2022, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Despite the high demand for treatment, barriers such as geographic isolation, stigma, and limited local resources often prevent patients from receiving care. Telehealth has emerged as a promising solution, particularly during the COVID 19 pandemic, when regulatory flexibilities allowed broader adoption of virtual care for addiction treatment.
